Kingfisher hide

This kingfisher photography course/ workshop offers you the opportunity to watch and photograph kingfishers in their natural habitat.

The kingfisher is without a doubt one of the most stunning birds in England but the only sighting many people ever get is an electric blue flash shooting away down the river. This course gives you the opportunity to watch and photograph them up close, an experience you will never forget.

This hide/ workshop is set up to photograph this beautiful and secretive bird. My hide and perch are set up around half a kilometre away from their nest so as to avoid any disturbance. With good field craft the kingfisher will not even be aware of your presence and you will witness natural behaviour including fishing, courtship and preening.

Hide hire only: £125 per session. I will meet you, provide you with an induction, help set you up and then leave you to photograph for the session. You must agree to a strict set of rules so as not to disturb the kingfishers.

Hide hire and tuition: £200 per session. On a 1:1 basis I will accompany you in the hide for three hours. I can help you get set up and provide advice and help with your photography. I’m also very familiar with the ecology and behaviour of these birds and will be able to assist you in getting the best shots. You can remain in the hide after I leave until dark. Please contact me directly to discuss availability.

Wow! What a fantastic experience! To be so close to such a fantastic bird in the wild was a truly amazing and to come away with such stunning pictures was the icing on the cake. I can’t wait to come back. Thank you for all your help and advice” Andrew Ducat

The experience of sitting in the hide was extremely peaceful, and the male kingfisher kept showing up through the morning, providing great views and posing for the camera. It was the best view of a kingfisher I’ve ever had, and I’ve been searching for this for over 2 years! I’m already trying to book to go back! Thanks again.” Alastair Marsh

A truly amazing experience being so close to such a beautiful bird – a chance in a lifetime and well worth the time and the money. Thankyou” Colin Spalding

We hired the kingfisher hide for the morning, fantastic experience, after waiting an hour suddenly one was there right in front of us, only a few feet away. We’re delighted with the photos and realised there is no way we would get anything like this without the hide. Thanks Jonathan” Chloe Cox and Clive Hook
