Introduction to photography course
Based in the spectacular setting of Templewood Hall in Northrepps, this introduction to photography course is designed for photographic beginners who have a desire to take better photographs. The aim of the course is to get members off automatic settings and start using their camera in manual modes (focusing on the aperture priority mode), enabling creative photography to take place. If you want to get more out of your camera, but don’t know aperture from ISO then this course is for you. Set on a working farm, and with access to a beautiful nature reserve this full day course is divided between tutorials and outdoor practical sessions. We will cover many aspects of basic photography including aperture, shutter speed, ISO, composition, focus points, lighting, exposure compensation, exposure bracketing and more. The course will teach members how to apply these techniques to get amazing wildlife photographs. Teaching will be interspersed with practical sessions which will help to master the skills learnt. No previous photography experience is required and while this course is designed for SLR users, members with bridge and compact cameras with manual modes will still find this course useful in enabling them to get the most from their camera.
This course can be taken either in a group or as a 1:1 session.

Testimonials: “Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the course on Saturday. I learned so much in such a short amount of time, so much more than I had previously managed to learn from reading copious amounts of photography books. I was particularly impressed with your enthusiasm and willingness to pass on your knowledge. I also found the format of the course ideal, mixing theory with real hands-on practice, especially with the beautiful setting of the countryside and lake. You have really inspired me to become a better photographer” Mark Hardy
“The Introduction to Photography course that Jon runs is great for those who have little knowledge of the workings and settings of digital cameras. His explanations verbally and graphically are easy to follow. He is always willing to give one to one assistance if required. Great course for the novice, a must for those who want get better photos” Chris Vertigan
“I was at both the Introduction to Photography and the Woodland Birds courses, both really good and very easy to understand. Being there with Jon explaining things was so much easier than trying to understand it all from a book and the course notes are easy to understand also and helpful for those with short term memory problems, comes with age I’m afraid!! Definitely money well spent and I would recommend these courses to anyone who wants to learn more about their camera and what it can do“ Maureen Mearnes
“Hi, thank you so much for the course on Friday. I have taken several courses and read numerous books but still felt in the dark about how to use my camera. After your course I feel as though something has “clicked” and I now understand how my camera works. I really enjoyed the mix between teaching and practicals. I’m now off out to practice all I’ve learnt. Thanks once again!” Pauline Hurrell
